	Linking Louisiana's Economic Future Louisiana Research is an exciting new publication that will focus on the innovative and creative work that is being done by the talented faculty throughout the Louisiana State University System. Our researchers are exploring new worlds, looking for solutions to old problems, and developing ways to make our communities safer, healthier, and more productive. In conjunction with our commitment to teaching and public service, research is one of the major components of the academic programs at our campuses. This magazine will give us the opportunity to showcase our research capabilities and to demonstrate the practical application of the new knowledge that we are uncovering. Our vision for the Louisiana State University System includes becoming the cornerstone of an academically effective and cost efficient higher education system dedicated to the development and dissemination of new technology and information for the citizens of Louisiana. Each of the campuses of the LSU System will play a vital role in preparing its students to incorporate new knowledge and new technologies into their daily lives, thereby increasing productivity but also improving their quality of life. The LSU System will assume a leadership role in developing technology capability, knowledge resources, faculty, and new programs that encourage and stimulate economic development. We realize that the economic future of Louisiana is closely tied to the ability of our businesses and industries to incorporate new technologies into their operational plans. We hope that Louisiana Research will serve as the link between our university-based research and those businesses that are looking for ways to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of their organization.
